Q. What if some of us have never fished?
We coach everyone how to fish. Our guides coach experienced fishers and neophytes alike. Every season we introduce non-fishers to the joys of hooking into and landing their first fish.
Q. How many anglers are in each boat?
Salmon boats will fish four (4) anglers. Halibut boats will fish six (6) anglers.
Q. What are the boats like?
We use 20 foot drift boats, 20 foot power boats, and 30-33 foot saltwater boats. We would like to thank our sponsor, Willie Boats.

Q. What is the best time to fish?
What is your definition of BEST ? Click on the link that best describes your answer? All of our fishing seasons are excellent!A) We can catch lots of fish every day, and have lots of action. We will catch multiple species of silver salmon, rainbow trout, dolly varden, and halibut during the vacation. We will bring lots of salmon and halibut home.
B) We will have the opportunity to catch one of the largest king salmon in the world, however, we may have to put some time in on the river. These kings of the Kenai average 40 pounds in July, and it is common to catch 50-70 pound monsters. This is the Kenai.
C) We will catch lots of fish (silver salmon, dolly varden, and rainbow trout) during our trip, and have the opportunity to catch trophy rainbow trout.
D) We will fish on a more secluded river, have a scenic drift boat trip, and come home with a limit of silver salmon.
E) We will fish on a drift boat-only river for 20-25 pound king salmon, and be able to continue fishing all day even after catching our limit.
F) We want the kids to catch lots of fish, and have a wonderful experience.
Q. What can we expect for a catch rate with Jimmie Jack Fishing?
Kenai River King Salmon (bait) - Approximately 75%
Kenai River King Salmon (no bait) - Approximately 65%
Kasilof River King Salmon - Approximately 75%
Kenai River Silver Salmon - Approximately 100%
Kenai River Rainbow Trout - Numerous with catch and release, (30 -150 fish per boat per day).
Cook Inlet Halibut - Approximately 100%
Q. What do we do with the fish after we catch them?
Day charters: "Our guides will fillet your fish. They will then give you a brochure to the local processor near the Lodge. We recommend our guests use Snug Harbor Seafoods near Jimmie Jack's Lodge."
Lodge packages: "Our guides will fillet your fish. If you are on one of our Lodge packages which includes a 50 pound box of processed fish, you will drop your fillets off following your charter and they will be ready for you in a 50 pound box upon your departure at the end of your stay."
Q. What about seasickness?
The rivers are flat and calm, and we have never had a guest become sick on the rivers. Occasionally on the halibut charters, guests have become seasick. We recommend guests take precautions against seasickness before boarding the boat.
Q. What should we bring?
Items that are helpful: raingear, sunscreen, sunglasses, food and drink, and, of course, your camera!
Q. Do we need a fishing license?
Yes, you will need an Alaska Fishing License which can be purchased online prior to your trip at http://www.admin.adfg.state.ak.us/license/ These can also be purchased at local supermarkets and tackle stores. If fishing for King Salmon, you will need a King Salmon Stamp in addition to your fishing license. See our Regulations & Licensing page for fishing license and king stamp prices.
Q. How do we get to Jimmie Jack's Lodge?
Most of our guests fly to Anchorage and drive 3 hours south to the Kenai Peninsula. Some guests fly to Anchorage, and then fly to the Kenai Airport (with Grant Aviation or ERA Aviation), and then drive 10 minutes to the lodge.
